This cottage was originally built as a carriage house/garage back in 1920 and had been remodeled into a two story rental property with the first floor sitting at grade and well below flood elevation. During hurricane Florence in 2018 the cottage was 6' underwater and required being raised and renovated. The owners were very familiar with historic properties and took care to keep parts of the historic structure including the kitchen range hood and transomes over the cased openings. The project included raising the house out of the flood plane and building a new brick masonry foundation and then doing a complete renovation on the interior.
